Hardware Replacement Services

While Meriton Networks offers redundant, carrier class products, we do recommend a comprehensive hardware replacement strategy that encompasses two related components to minimize risk for critical core network hardware.

  1. The first component is the capability to replace a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) at the time of failure utilizing spares inventory maintained locally.
  2. The second component is rapid replenishment of the depleted spares inventory with replacement product from a central depot.

By utilizing this two-step process customers will minimize risk while optimizing expense associated with maintaining "five nines" reliability.

To meet these requirements, we recommend that our customers maintain a locally based depot with an inventory of spares for each field replaceable unit. A full complement of FRUs commensurate with the inventory deployed within a metropolitan area is necessary to satisfy this component.

The second component is fulfilled utilizing a central sparing depot that has the capability to replenish spares to any local sparing depot within 24 hours of the failure. Meriton Networks provides both Sparing and Advanced Replacement offerings that can serve as this central sparing depot and provides this level of service.

Customer-held sparing needs are calculated based on your network. We have adopted a methodology that considers the following factors:

  • Network design
  • Network / node locations
  • Shelf configuration
  • Network loading

Our approach is to work collaboratively with the customer to determine the appropriate level of locally held spares and to help implement a sparing strategy based on a risk versus cost matrix. The sparing strategy is reviewed on a regular basis with the customer to address network changes or the introduction of additional equipment.

To compliment and support the sparing strategies adopted by our customers, Meriton Networks offers hardware replacement options that provide hardware replacement in as little as four hours or as much as 24 hours.
