Meriton Networks AON - Meriton's Agile Optical Networking
6400 OTP (Optical Transport Platform)

The Meriton 6400 OTP (Optical Transport Platform) leverages a fully automated optical layer and an open, intelligent control plane to provide a transport platform with the performance you need, and the ease of implementation you demand.  The mature and field-proven reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) architecture of the 6400 OTP allows networks the superior flexibility that is not available from fixed add/drop OADMs and exceptional savings in operational expenses (OPEX).

Service provider needs have been ill-served by the current generation of static optical networking solutions. While  fixed, banded optical add/drop WDM solutions are adequate for applications with low drop capacity and low traffic churn, in more dynamic networks, operators have been saddled with manually intensive and operationally expensive burdens of jumper cabling, per-wavelength engineering, and wavelength stranding. Scalable networks need simplicity – simplicity to plan, install, operate, provision and maintain optical (WDM) systems, to manage the unpredictable demands and traffic patterns of the metro core, and to allow operators to leverage their existing transport infrastructure to carry emerging wavelength and data services, as well as legacy "bread and butter" TDM services.

Real-time remote provisioning of the optical layer: Enable on-demand service activation.

The 6400 OTP's fully automated optical layer and GMPLS control plane, coupled with the Meriton 8600 NMS, enable remote provisioning as well as dynamic, reconfigurable optical add/drop capabilities. Service activation intervals decrease, and wavelength provisioning is transformed from costly truck rolls to simple key strokes.

Meriton's Agile Optical Networking portfolio comprises the 3300 OSM at the access layer, 7200 OSP for multi-degree switching in the metro core and the 6400 OTP for flexible transport in metro core-regional networks, all supported by unified network planning and management systems.

High Bandwidth Re-Use with Single Wavelength Granularity: Maximize ROI
Meriton's Patented optical innovations combine to offer a fully automated optical layer. The 6400 OTP dynamically switches any 2.5 Gb/s or 10Gb/s wavelength from any node, to any node, independent of any other wavelength, without restriction - for highly granular wavelength flexibility, thanks to the Versicolor wavelength selective switch (WSS), the heart of the 6400 OTP ROADM subsystem. With the 6400 OTP, wavelengths are managed individually with the ability to re-use individual wavelengths multiple times within a network. The 6400 OTP supplies substantially more usable bandwidth than most current generation OADMs. All of which adds up to low-cost, on demand connectivity - deploy capacity based on customer service demands, not dictated by the limits of the legacy WDM equipment.

Judicious Integration of WDM and TDM: Eliminate Stacked ADM Rings. Enable Data over Transport Services.
The innovative ADM on a Wavelength™ feature of the 6400 OTP allows for seamless integration of SONET/SDH, GbE, 10GbE, and SAN data services with efficient WDM transport and sub-wavelength switching. This technology breakthrough in the 6400 OTP eliminates the need for complex, stacked ADM rings and stand-alone SONET add/drop multiplexers - reducing network complexity while eliminating the need to find multiple "10G ready" fibers in the inter-office network.

Plan your network with confidence: Select the right configuration when you start, and as you grow.

Meriton’s 9500 Network Planning Tool (NPT), a comprehensive software NTP that allows planning, engineering and/or operations personnel to design and deploy networks with one-time node-engineering – planners can simply specify the fiber plant and locations of add/drop nodes and the NPT provides a complete solution guaranteed to transport any wavelength from any node to any other node. Further, the NPT helps optimize wavelength allocation depending on customer demands – the service and content providers. Along with Meriton’s open-interface network and element management systems, the NPT provides the glue for all Meriton products to be deployed seamlessly as your network needs grow.

Simple, one-time node engineering: Meet traffic growth without the burden of operations complexity
Installation is a snap, whether it's a new installation, or the addition of a node in a live system. Meriton 6400 OTP software automatically discovers new equipment, updating the network configuration without manual intervention, while the automated optical layer dynamically adjusts and balances power levels of each wavelength as services are added or removed. Eliminate unnecessary manual intervention and cumbersome, error-prone per-wavelength engineering when adding new services, new capacity, or new nodes. The 6400 OTP provides one-time node engineering, with a lifetime of bandwidth provisioning - no manual intervention, no mistakes, no guesswork.

Optimized - day one - for 10 Gb/s: Extend network reach and expand network capacity. Painlessly.
Ready for 10Gb/s, the 6400 OTP simultaneously supports both 2.5 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s applications. The 6400 OTP features an optical layer optimized for carrying 10 Gb/s wavelengths. The system provides automatic gain control and dynamic gain equalization, assuring that network capacity scales effortlessly - and painlessly - from 2.5 Gb/s to 320Gb/s.

Subtending Ring Support: Create Interoperable Sub-Wavelength Services
ADM-on-a-Wavelength™ technology can eliminate costly head-end nodes via direct termination of sub-tending access rings. With fewer nodes, and fewer interconnects, operators can deliver Wavelength, SONET/SDH, and data services more efficiently across metro regional and access networks.

Support diverse services and unpredictable traffic patterns: Efficiently Utilize the Network Bandwidth
Mix-and-Match-Optical Layer Protection™ lets network operators choose the protection switching approach that best meets their service needs - on a per-wavelength basis. Say no to "all or nothing" network protection schemes. Eliminate stranded capacity. Offer a range of protected wavelength services to your customers, or protect using standard SONET/SDH protection schemes with ADM-on-a-Wavelength™.

Take Control
As the 6400 OTP takes care of the network, track its performance with the Meriton 8600 NMS, an intelligent, full-featured network management system for network-wide operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning. It provides complete visibility of client-side and line-side signal performance, allowing assess to compliance information for service-level agreements. Intelligent software isolates faults to a replaceable unit level - eliminate guesswork, reduce repair intervals.

The Meriton 6400 OTP is the ONLY solution that meets all metro core and regional optical networking requirements. No constraints. No compromises.
