Light Reading Webinar: Ethernet Optical Networking
Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 12:00 p.m. New York / 5:00 p.m. London
Host: Sterling Perrin, Senior Analyst, Heavy Reading
Meriton Participant: Brian Pratt, Director, Solutions Marketing
In this Webinar, panelists will discuss how operators' embrace of Ethernet as both a service and a networking layer creates a continued challenge to the strict delineation of optical transport and the data network – opening the door for new classes of packet-aware optical networking systems. These systems will leverage developments in scaleable switch fabrics, packet- and service-aware processing and management, and the optical control plane, as they help drive operators' costs down and service capabilities up.

Ethernet and WDM Light the Way to the New Future Metro (April 2007)
Carriers around the world are simplifying their networks, and a common goal is to have an IP/MPLS/Ethernet data services layer and a packet optical transport moving toward a fused Ethernet-WDM optical transport layer. This vision recognizes that GE and 10GE will be the “atomic” data elements transported in networks. There are measurable signs that carrier investments foretell this eventual architecture. For example, declining investments in SONET/SDH equipment, increasing deployments and plans for ROADM-enabled WDM gear, and focus on beefing up the transport capabilities of Ethernet, such as PBT (or PBB-TE) and T-MPLS.

WDM: The Move to Mesh Networking and ROADMs (October 2006)
Leading service providers are spending an increasing portion of their WDM dollars on ROADM-enabled systems. This webinar will explore how service providers choose between mesh and ring and the different types of ROADMs, including mux-demux, wavelength blocker, PLC and WSS. In addition the criteria for choosing which types of ROADMs to use at 2-degree nodes, mesh spurs, and ring interconnect will be discussed.

Optimally Building Mixed SONET/SDH, WDM and Ethernet Networks (September 2006)
Mixing business and broadband services is forcing service providers to change and even transform their optical networks by designing in a flexible mix of Ethernet, SONET/SDH, and WDM. This webinar gives real world examples of how Service providers are transforming their networks using new hybrid Ethernet-WDM-SONET/SDH products.

The Business Case for Deploying ROADMs (May 2006)
ROADM systems are becoming increasingly important to network operators as they roll out new high-bandwidth services. ROADM systems are much more than DWDM with an added module for wavelength reconfiguration - they are based on a host of new innovations, all of which contribute to the economic value these systems offer. This LightReading Webinar will explore the drivers behind recent ROADM market growth and illustrate the business case for ROADM deployments.

Cutting OPEX in Optical Networks (February 2006)
Optical networking is surging once again in 2006 as operators move forward with major broadband networking, IPTV, and Ethernet service initiatives, driving massive bandwidth onto their transport networks. This LightReading Webinar will take a detailed look at important new technologies that contribute to more dynamic optical networks while reducing network OPEX.

Next Generation ROADMS...What to Look for (January 2006)
This LightReading Webinar starts by looking at component developments that are likely to drive down the cost of deploying remotely reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers. It then looks at how those developments have influenced the business case for service providers to stop studying ROADMs and start using them.
