Fact Sheet
Xtera Communications is the first company to introduce a unified Agile Optical Networking infrastructure that fully meets the requirements of service providers looking for a future-proof means of deploying consumer broadband and high-speed business services.
Target Customers
Value Proposition The value proposition for the Xtera Communications Agile Optical Networking products is three-fold:
- Adds revenue channels for carriers by providing a single architecture for the delivery of high-speed metro services (Note that this also translates into lower operating costs, simpler networks and improved service and customer satisfaction)
- Adds capacity to exhausted networks at a much lower cost than other approaches
- Reduces current network costs with dramatic savings in CAPEX (40-70% less) and, more importantly, in OPEX as well
The Xtera solution improves network efficiency by optimizing resources through shared protection and combined ring/mesh architectures. Equally important, carriers' previous transport investment is protected as the AON architecture integrates seamlessly with existing networks and adheres to standards.

Management Team
- Jon Hopper, CEO
Jon Hopper has been providing the strategy and vision for Xtera Communications
since taking over as President and Chief Executive Officer in February
2004.
Prior to Xtera, Jon spent 15 years as the Chief Executive of several
capital equipment companies. Those companies include Dynamotion Corp.
(merged with ESI, NASDAQ ESIO) and IRSI (merged with Photon Dynamics,
NASDAQ PHTN). Jon has also held senior management positions at Photon
Dynamics and ESI. Jon has a very successful track record taking pre-revenue
companies with innovative products and building them into global commercial
enterprises capable of supporting multi-national customers.
- Paul Colan, EVP & CFO
Paul Colan has reigned as the Chief Financial Officer of Xtera Communications
since February 2004. He provides financial leadership for Xtera’s
domestic and international operations. Paul’s financial operations
philosophy is influenced by the knowledge and experience he acquired while
working in the capital equipment industry and servicing an international
client base. Paul has served as the Vice President Finance for Extreme
Devices, a diamond semiconductor start-up company and Intelligent Reasoning
Systems, an automated optical inspection equipment provider who later
merged with Photon Dynamics (NASDAQ PHTN). Paul assumed the role of Finance
Director for Photon Dynamics, a supplier of yield management tools to
the display industry, where he was responsible for worldwide sales and
support operations.
- Herve Fevrier, EVP & COO
Herve Fevrier has been with Xtera Communications since June 2000. As
the EVP and COO, Herve has management responsibility for all areas of
